Why the First 1-2 Weeks Are Best for Newborn Sessions
At Little Life Studio, we believe that every baby deserves to have their first moments beautifully documented, no matter when their session takes place. While the ideal window for newborn photography is within the first 1-2 weeks of life, we understand that sometimes families may need to schedule later. If your baby is older, don’t worry—there are still plenty of opportunities to capture stunning images!
The first two weeks of life are considered the golden window for newborn photography. Here’s why:
Sleepy & Curled Poses: Newborns in this stage are still very flexible and naturally curl into those beautiful womb-like poses.
Deep Sleep Cycles: Babies sleep deeply and are less likely to wake up when gently posed.
Minimal Baby Acne & Flaky Skin: Around 2-3 weeks, baby acne and skin peeling can become more noticeable.
Less Movement & Startle Reflex: As babies grow, they become more alert, making it harder to capture those peaceful, sleepy images.
If possible, we always recommend booking your newborn session within this early window for the best experience. However, we understand that life happens, and if your baby is past this stage, we can still create beautiful images!
Milestones from Birth to 12 Months
As your baby grows, they’ll go through so many beautiful milestones, each offering unique photo opportunities
0-3 Months: Newborn & Early Smiles
Best time for sleepy, wrapped, and delicate newborn poses.
Around 6-8 weeks, babies start making intentional eye contact.
First social smiles appear around 8 weeks!
3-6 Months: Tummy Time & Giggles
Babies develop stronger head control and can lift their heads during tummy time.
Around 4 months, they begin to grasp objects and explore with their hands.
By 5-6 months, they may start rolling over!
Expressions become more animated, leading to adorable giggles and playful interactions.
6-9 Months: Sitting Up & Personality Shines
One of the best ages for milestone photos! Babies can sit unassisted around 6-7 months.
They love grabbing their feet and may start early crawling motions.
This is a fantastic stage for bright-eyed expressions, chubby rolls, and first tiny teeth!
9-12 Months: Crawling & First Steps
Most babies begin pulling up to stand between 9-10 months.
Some will start taking first steps around their first birthday!
Their personality is fully blossoming, making this a fun stage for capturing laughs, claps, and even first words!
